Another unusual bike sighting.

A Trek-Schwinn alien hybrid!
What drives a person to build a bicycle such as this?  Is the owner a compulsive artist who must create with whatever implements are available or is he (I strongly believe it is a "he") obsessed with the question "Can it be done?"  I'm not judgin; I really want to know.  I also want to know how he gets on and off it.  Stepladder?  Wooden stool?

They are fun to ride. I think it's as simple as that. To mount it you put your left foot on left pedal and push off with your right (or vice versa) once the bike is rolling you swing/pull yourself up onto the seat. Dismount reverse of this.
These "tall bikes" have been around forever. At one time they used them to light gas street lamps.

My neighbor Carson in Louisville, KY owns a nice little bike shop a couple of blocks away and has a turn of the century tall bike - the kind with the oversized front wheel. I used to see him taking it out for a spin from time to time. Very cool. I never saw him mount or dismount and was so perplexed as to how he accomplished either that I never stopped him for fear that I would cause him to loose his balance. Silly me. :)
