Daisy rides again!

Daisy rides through NAU campus.
I had a less than cheerful task to perform earlier this week and decided to pedal to the required destination.  In order to add a bit of levity to the occasion, I decided to bring Daisy along.  I'd been promising her another ride in her beloved Snoozer pet bicycle basket and the day's weather presented a great opportunity.  The month of May does not guarantee  especially warm temperatures so I bundled my little companion up in her red fleese jacket for her comfort.

Daisy continues to be a good little traveler on the bike.  I check her harness at the occasional light and give her head a scratch now and then to keep her relaxed, which really doesn't appear to be much of an issue.

Prairie dog outside his den.
Again she ignored, the prairie dog colonies found along the side of almost any road.

Daisy spies a girl on the run.
She remains, however, interested in people and that day her ears perked up when she spied a runner coming up to urban trail.  Still, no pulling to get out of her basket, nor barking to get the runner's attention.

Daisy wistfully watches the runner pass.
Daisy watched the runner pass, probably curious as to the reason why she didn't wasn't lavished with the usual coos and ahhhs that she grown accustomed to when out in public.

"Can we go home now for a nap?"
Then she returned her attention to me and gave me a look that said "Okay, let's get going!"  Daisy's wish is my command!  Yep!  Pedaling around town with my funny little dog made a mildy irritating job a bit more tolerable.  I definitely would prescribe carrying a dog in your bike basket for curing whatever ailes you.  Mikael Colville-Andersen reminded me that you need not use a dog specific bike basket.  Any old basket that is large enough to accommodate your pet and fit on your bike will do just fine.  I think it's more important to make sure that your dog is comfortable and attached  with a strong harness.  After all, even though Daisy appears perfectly calm and happy her basket, I can't swear on a stack of bibles that one of these days one of those prairie dogs won't look at her the wrong way and all hell break loose!  If you want a pet specific bike basket you can follow this link and look at Snoozer's line here.

I reviewed the Snoozer Sporty Pet Bicycle Basket for www.commutebybike.com in March 2012.  I was not paid to write the review.  I was given the product for the purposes of the review with the understanding that the review would reflect my honest opinion and experience of the product, which it did.

Quick! Say something political!

You're at risk of becoming a crazy Chihuahua lady.

I walked our big dog Howard to work today. He weighs about 90 pounds. I haven't figured out a way to get him on around by bike -- not yet.

Okay, Ted. Here's something political - evolving!

I could get so political so quickly on this blog. For instance, in a communitarian culture like the Netherlands where people are prioritized over cars you and I would easily be able to haul our dogs around in a bakfiets on segregated bike lanes. This very morning in fact, I was thinking how much Jade (15 lbs) and Ashby (30 lbs) would love to be carried about in a lovely Workcycles bakfiets.

Moonlight (our 50lb K9 companion/best friend) would also love to be hauled around town I'm sure...I somehow doubt she could show the same restraint where the prairie dogs are concerned though,LOL-when she sees other dogs in fenced yards and any of the 10's of thousands of stray cats around here (on our many walks),she puts it in 4 wheel drive and yanks me along for the ride...she's getting better at it though, learning what "Don't pull me" means :p

DC: You might be surprised. Normally, Daisy is ready to pounce on anything that moves when we go on walks but I think she find the motion of riding in the bike very relaxing. She doesn't even bark, just enjoys the ride. I really would like a bakfiets for the other two dogs (and of course for those times when Bob prefers to be chauffeured.

I love seeing that little girl riding around. Always puts a smile on my face. :) I can see why she is usually lavished with attention.

Ahhhh! Great idea. I've been thinking of taking my chi out for a ride but wasn't sure how he'd feel. Maybe I will tonight. Thanks for the photos. Daisy is adorable.

Cidell, as my husband advised, just be careful you don't get labeled as "that crazy dog lady"! I do love taking her on the bike though. Tomorrow we are off to the vet and maybe a stop at Petsmart for a dog cookie.

Our dog Skully maimed one of those prairie dogs the other day. I had the unpleasant task of putting the suffering rodent out of it's misery. With a big rock, in case you are wondering.
