I'd like to take credit for all the bicycles and mountain chic styles I've witnessed on the streets of Flagstaff, chalking it up to two days of high heels on my bike last but I'd be giving myself too much credit. Still, maybe some things are sinking in.
The awesome sunny weather probably had something to do with the proliferation of recreational (it's a start) and bike commuters I saw during my lunch hours this past week.
This past Sunday, Bob advised me to be more spontaneous and risky with the camera: stop worrying about getting everything framed just so and just shoot; take the initiative and ask take a picture; and get in there close and get the face. As he noted about Copenhagencyclechic.com, Mikael gets the emotions associated with the activity of biking, from the push off to the bored moments waiting for the light to change.
We saw this couple on a bike date (I wondered if it was their first!) while having our lunch in Wheeler Park. Bob actually caught this shot of them pedaling through the grass, while I chased them down like a crazy woman and reassured them I was only after a picture (yes, strangers in pursuit with cameras are always reassuring).
After leaving Bob at Absolute Bikes where the Planner Guy carried out his surprise gift of the ruby red Breezer, I caught this fun loving couple on cruisers out in front of Babbitt's on Aspen and San Francisco. I have no idea what the guy is laughing at but they seemed to be having a great time.
These two women got the awards of the day for really great Flagstaff Mountain Cycle Chic! Really, this is what the fashion forward woman wears in Flagstaff, even to work. The reason? Well, aside from the fact that Flagstaff has a fairly high percentage of bike commuters compared to most American cities, Flagstaff men and women are active.
They run, hike, rock climb, and spend a great deal of time walking their beloved dogs. The active outdoor lifestyle requires a generous supply of Teva sandals and trail runners. Because our feet our often tired and sore, we also keep Dansko and Merril clogs nearby. We need breathable, technical-wear, so we prize Patagonia and Columbia sportswear.
Just because our clothing is designed to withstand considerable abuse on the trail doesn't mean we don't want to look good.
Later during the week, I ran quite literally into two edgy 20-somethings pedaling up to that socialist institution, the Flagstaff Library. They agreed to allow me to photograph them while they parked their bikes after I explained that I author a bike commuting and fashion blog. I don't know if I gained their cooperated out of flattery or fear. Oh, well. Who cares? I got the shot.
Yes, one of them does have a cigarette between her lips. She asked me rather self consciously if she should remove the cigarette. I wondered if her mother knew she smoked but told her she could, by all means, keep it exactly where it was. Very French. I am not here to judge.
Human beings at times have to lock their bikes and go into cafes, boutiques, sushi bars, and ar studios. That leaves their lovely bikes unattened for admiration. These are a few I noticed during my lunch hours.

Meanwhile, back at the front porch, the Planner Guy bragged to his parents of his triumphant surprise of the Breezer, assuring them once again that he is the perfect husband. No worries. I've bragged to all my friends that he's the man!
With the warm evening air, we spent nearly the entire evening on the porch, each of us falling asleep in our comfy chairs after an exhausting game of cribbage.
